Vaterstetten: Social engagement abroad – Ebersberg

Many young people decide to spend a voluntary social year abroad. How morally justifiable is that? Visiting Fritz Bayerlein, who has been supporting projects for children and young people in Peru and Ecuador with an association for many years.

On May 31, 1970, the ground shook in Peru. The worst earthquake in the history of the South American country killed around 70,000 people and left 800,000 homeless. The whole country was affected. This is also the case in the small town of Chiquián, 400 km north-east of the capital Lima. At that time, its 5000 souls were cared for by the native South Tyrolean pastor Paul Fink, also known as “Padre Pablo”.
