Ten years ago, Vanessa Mai started her career with Clouds Free. The music project is now starting a comeback with a first new single.

Vanessa Mai (30) has long established herself as a solo singer. However, she first became known as the frontwoman of the band Wolkenfrei. In 2013 the group released their debut single “Jeans, T-Shirt and Freedom”, followed in 2014 by their debut album “Endlosliebe”. Just one year later, Stefan Kinski and Marc Fischer announced their departure and Mai continued the project on her own. In 2016 she said goodbye to her beginnings and only appeared under her stage name from then on. Just in time for the tenth anniversary of the Wolkenfrei debut, Mai returns to her roots and releases a first new single from the upcoming new Wolkenfrei album.

Carefree road trip

The song “The world belongs to us” is said to convey “an infectious light-heartedness”. Among other things, Mai sings: “Open the window, wind in your hair, open the navigation system where I’ve never been. […] Next stop: Horizon. So crazy about everything that’s to come. Nothing and nobody holding us. Baby, the world belongs to us.” For the corresponding video, which premieres this Friday at 5 p.m. and from which in advance a clip on Instagram was released, the singer is fittingly spotted on a sunny road trip and at the beach.

The album “Hotel Tropicana” will be released on March 31st and, like the herald single, should radiate “ease and joie de vivre”. According to the announcement, the songs are about “love, freedom and longing, about big dreams and small escapes from everyday life”. Deep inside, “Clouds Free always had a place in my heart, I know where I come from,” says Vanessa Mai in a statement. “I was never tired of hits. I just had to break new ground with Vanessa Mai to be able to do what made me so happy back then with all my heart.”
