The spirit of contradiction. This Friday, the Ile-de-France region announced that it would maintain its funding for the Stanislas school, despite being accused of “abnormalities” in an official report. A counter to the Paris City Hall which indicated on Wednesday to suspend “as a precautionary measure” its payments to the establishment.
“There were clearly shortcomings at the Stanislas high school, revealed by the report,” estimates the region, which says it learned its content “in the press” while it “asked the ministry for information from 2022” when Mediapart published a first investigation.
917,000 euros voted at the end of the month
But “from the moment the State maintains the association contract” of this posh establishment in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, “the financing is maintained”, summarizes the entourage of Valérie Pécresse before the vote, on January 31 in committee permanent, with an initial envelope of 917,000 euros, the largest in the region for a private school.
This amount corresponds to 70% of the annual day school package, a compulsory subsidy, calculated according to the number of students and paid by the region, which has control over secondary education. The balance (30%) will be paid in July.
Positions “likely to be criminally qualified on homosexuality”
In the turmoil since the revelation of the general inspection report, the Stanislas school has been accused of “drifts in the application of the association contract” of the establishment with the State, such as the obligation to take courses of catechism, which is against the law.
“Drifts” also in the content of these courses, according to the report, which underlines that “certain catechists express personal convictions which go beyond the positions of the Catholic Church, for example on abortion” or “likely to be classified criminally on homosexuality.
The management of this establishment and the diocese of Paris believe that this report does not validate the serious criticisms relayed in several recent journalistic investigations.
Valérie Pécresse procrastinates
The president of the region Valérie Pécresse asks “that the recommendations of this report be fully implemented, without delay” and that “justice be referred to” if there are “breaches of the law”, indicates those around her.
The controversy originated in comments made by the new Minister of Education Amélie Oudéa-Castéra on the schooling of her children in Stanislas. Weakened from her appointment, she asked Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to relinquish the report and follow-up on its recommendations.
