Moto2: The Voices of the Top 3

Pedro Acosta (Ajo-Kalex; 1st): “I don’t know how to describe this race. At first I didn’t understand anything. But I knew we could do it. So I just focused on what I do best. But today it’s my team that makes the difference done. Thank you for that!”

Augusto Fernandez (Ajo-Kalex; 2nd): “Wow! I don’t know what to say. Thanks to the whole team, to Aki [Ajo], my crew, my father, my family and just everyone who has supported me throughout my career and especially this year. I still can’t believe it and have to let it sink in first. Of course I enjoyed the race. I would have liked to win it, but Pedro was really strong today. I tried it, but of course I’m really happy with this podium place.”

Tony Arbolino (Marc-VDS-Kalex; 3rd): “The two guys up front have been working on their pace since Friday. I, on the other hand, was just looking for a feeling for a long time. I was so far behind, so this result is like a win for me, even though I didn’t have the pace . In the end we did a good job. The two up front were too quick, but I’m happy.”

Moto2: The final standings of the World Championship

Due to Ogura’s fall, Fernandez’ lead in the World Championship increases to 29.5 points. He ends the season with 271.5 points. Ogura becomes Vice World Champion. Despite his fall, Canet keeps third place in the World Championship ahead of Arbolino.

Schrötter finished eleventh in the overall standings in his last season.

1:05 p.m

Moto2: Schrötter goodbye tenth

Behind the podium, Aldeguer and Arenas finish fourth and fifth respectively. The second half of the top 10 is occupied by Gonzalez, Dixon, Alcoba, Agius and Schrötter, who finishes his last Moto2 race in tenth place. The remaining points places go to Bendsneyder, Gomez, Salac, Dalla Porta and Roberts.

1:04 p.m

Moto2: Acosta wins, Fernandez World Champion

Acosta takes the win safely and takes the top step of the podium for the third time in his rookie season. Fernandez finishes second and exits Moto2 as World Champion. The Spaniard will move up to MotoGP next year. Arbolino is third.

12:58 p.m

Moto2: The order

The third to last lap is running and nothing has changed in the picture at the top. Acosta leads almost seven tenths ahead of Fernandez. Arbolino holds third but is now more than six seconds behind.

Aldeguer is also several seconds behind in fourth, followed by Arenas, Gonzalez, Dixon, Alcoba, Agius and Schrötter.

12:54 p.m

Moto2: Canet crashed

Arbolino can breathe again because Canet’s race to catch up ends prematurely in the gravel bed. Aldeguer inherits fourth place but is six seconds back. Meanwhile, the expected punishment follows for Alcoba, who receives a long lap penalty.

12:52 p.m

Moto2: Arbolino falls behind

Acosta and Fernandez set similar lap times. The gap between the two has leveled off at six or seven tenths. Arbolino can’t keep up the pace and has to fight for the final podium as Canet closes.

Further down, Pasini is cleared by Alcoba and loses a top 10 place as a result. That could be a penalty.

12:47 p.m

Moto2: total failure

The day doesn’t get any better for Honda Team Asia as after Ogura, Chantra has now crashed in seventh place – the same place as Ogura before him.

12:44 p.m

Moto2: Ajo double lead

Fernandez also conceded Arbolino. So we have an Ajo double lead. But there are already eight tenths between the two teammates.

Schrötter has now – also due to the falls in front of him – advanced into the points and is in twelfth place. He is already more than three seconds behind his team-mate Alcoba in eleventh place.

12:41 p.m

Moto2: Top 3 by a margin

Acosta is over and can also pull away a bit. Now Arbolino has Fernandez glued to the rear wheel. There is already a big gap behind the top 3 at half-time: Canet in fourth is more than a second and a half behind.

12:39 p.m

Moto2: Arbolino under pressure

After Ogura, Acosta now arranges Arbolino and puts pressure on him. Fernandez is third and can basically risk everything now to not only end the season with the title, but also with a win.

12:35 p.m

Moto2: Ogura in the gravel!

Acosta attacks Ogura, but he doesn’t want to give up and takes back second place. It then happens in turn 8: Ogura slides away and finally buries his title chance in the gravel. After less than eight laps, his race is over and Fernandez is sure to be world champion, even if he falls.

12:32 p.m

Moto2: More falls

Beaubier crashes on the finish corner and ends his last Moto2 race in the gravel. Shortly thereafter, Vietti also goes down.

The top has meanwhile pushed together again. Arbolino still leads, but has Ogura and Arbolino just behind him. Fernandez is just under a second behind in fourth.

12:30 pm

Moto2: The order

Five rounds have been completed. Arbolino leads ahead of Ogura and Acosta. Beaubier has caught Fernandez and is now fourth. Behind them are Canet, Aldeguer, Vietti, Arenas and Chantra. Schrötter is 16th and is currently outside the points rankings.

12:28 p.m

Moto2: Lopez out of the race

Lopez comes off the line a little at Turn 11 and pays for it with a fall. This moves Acosta and Fernandez to third and fourth place respectively. Beaubier is fifth.
