Vaccination scandal in Schortens: More than 10,000 people affected | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

The district of Friesland corrected the number of people affected by the vaccination scandal upwards on Friday. Accordingly, 10,186 people should now be vaccinated.

Chances are they may not have full vaccination coverage due to manipulation of the syringes by a 40 year old nurse. On Tuesday, 8,557 potential cases were still assumed. District Administrator Sven Ambrosy (SPD) said that the other suspected cases were made known by checking the hours of work of the accused nurse. A comparison of the times known from the duty roster with the woman’s actual working hours showed that she had taken on additional duties.

Investigations so far only in six cases

The people concerned would be informed by post, it said. The public prosecutor said that there were six cases that the woman had admitted to being specifically determined. According to the investigators, the fact that far more than six people willing to be vaccinated could be affected by testimony from witnesses. How many people actually received saline instead of vaccine is unknown.

Forged your vaccination certificate?

The authorities are now assuming a politically motivated act. According to information from NDR Lower Saxony, the nurse is said to have forged her vaccination certificate. Her lawyer denied the NDR the allegation that his client was an opponent of vaccinations. It is part of freedom of expression to share critical comments on corona measures on social media – as the woman has done.

Attorney disagrees investigating

The lawyer also disagrees with regard to the assumed scope of the vaccination manipulation. The nurse by no means only administered saline solution to those willing to be vaccinated. They just tried to compensate for spilled vaccine with leftovers from other ampoules. The lawyer said that the six known incidents remained. However, this statement has never been mentioned by the authorities. A spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Oldenburg confirmed that “that was actually implied in the first interrogation”.

More than 5,000 people registered for re-vaccination

It mainly affects people over 70 years of age who are between March 5th and April 24th have visited the vaccination center in Schortens. In addition, employees of hospices and mobile care services, educators and doctors were vaccinated during this period. According to the district, more than 5,000 people have registered for a catch-up vaccination by Friday. Several thousand people would have the information hotline (0800) 0 00 51 60 called. There is also one on the district’s homepage FAQ info page to find.

Possible Covid cases after vaccination appointments not known

It is unclear whether people who were supposedly vaccinated were infected with the coronavirus after an injection with saline solution. “These are reporting data that are not overlaid here – also for data protection reasons,” said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health. The authorities strongly advise getting vaccinated. “A repeat vaccination is advisable and unproblematic even if the vaccination was successful,” said the deputy head of the Corona crisis team, Claudia Schröder. It is completely harmless. “And so this is now the method of choice.”
