Vaccination officers should look after old people’s and care facilities – Bavaria

Minister of Health and Care Klaus Holetschek (CSU) wants to promote the corona booster vaccinations in old people’s and nursing homes. “Vaccination officers in the vaccination centers should look after the elderly and care facilities closely in the future and take care of the first or second booster vaccination of the residents,” said his ministry on Saturday. The facilities should be supported and relieved by the vaccination officers. So far, the rate of booster vaccinations in the facilities has not yet been satisfactory, said Holetschek. However, risk groups in particular are well protected against a severe course of the disease with a second booster vaccination. The Standing Vaccination Commission recommends the second booster vaccination for people aged 70 and over and for residents in care facilities, among others. The vaccination centers were therefore asked to appoint vaccination officers for old people’s and nursing homes, who should serve as permanent contacts for the facilities, according to the Minister of Health.

From mid-August, the vaccination officers should start their work in all care facilities in consultation with the associations and, for example, offer a counseling week. The aim is for the vaccination officers to go to the facilities on site, talk to the residents, take away unfounded fears and, if necessary, organize vaccinations via mobile vaccination teams, announced Holetschek.
