Vaccination of children at risk, magistrates’ strike and health restrictions in Europe

Did you miss the news from the start of the morning? We have concocted a recap to help you see more clearly.

France is taking a first step towards vaccinating young people against Covid-19. Children “at risk” will be able to be vaccinated from this Wednesday. With the green light from the health authorities, the government opened the injections to 360,000 children at risk of developing a severe form of the disease and to those living in the entourage of immunocompromised people. The door is therefore open for generalization to other children, which would be done on a voluntary basis. This is even possible since its authorization in the European Union on November 25.

The generally hushed world of Justice will experience a real revolution. On December 10, the Union Syndicale des Magistrates (USM), the majority organization within the profession, openly called on judges to go on strike on Wednesday. This day of mobilization – which must bring together lawyers, clerks and magistrates – comes three weeks after the publication of a column in the newspaper The world denouncing the conditions under which justice is rendered in France. Hitherto opposed to the right to strike of magistrates, the USM returned to its “legal analysis” on the occasion of a recent national council. On this point, it is similar to the second trade union organization in the profession: the Syndicat de la magistrature.

The fifth wave of coronavirus overwhelms France. The number of Covid-19 contaminations increased again on Tuesday, to 63,405 cases, the highest figure since April according to data from Public Health France published on Tuesday. As of April 8, 84,999 new cases had been registered. Hospitals continue to welcome new patients, with 1,662 new admissions (against 1,505 on Monday) and 362 critical care admissions, for a total of 2,792 patients. At least 158 people have died, up from 231 on Monday. In total, since the start of the pandemic, more than 120,800 people have died from Covid-19 in France. Europe too has its head under water. The list of countries strengthening their health restrictions continues to grow. In the United Kingdom, the deputies voted, with reluctance, the wearing of the mask indoors and the compulsory health pass in major events. In the Netherlands, the Prime Minister announced the early closure of primary schools before the Christmas holidays and the extension of current health restrictions until January 14.
