Vaccination in middle and high schools, “the big issue of the fall”

At the time of the great departures on vacation, others are already in their head at the start of the school year. The government plans to extend the vaccination against the coronavirus in colleges and high schools at the start of the school year, this track even appearing among the “major issues of the fall”, according to a document from the Ministry of Health consulted this Saturday by the AFP.

The ” task force vaccination ”of the government is thus in the“ anticipation ”of the“ big stakes of the autumn ”, seven in number at this stage, according to this document presented Friday afternoon to the unions of nursing and to the hospital federations. Several are not within the purview of political power, such as “the dissemination of new variants”, “the arrival of new vaccines” or the “need to ensure a third injection” for some people.

A more peaceful return to school?

Others, on the contrary, fall within its remit, such as the “territorial network” of vaccination centers, “support for demand” (notably via so-called “out-of-town” systems) and the “passage through town” of the population. Pfizer vaccine (expected in September from doctors and pharmacists). Or “the deployment of vaccination in schools (middle and high schools) during the first quarter of the school year”, which does not seem to achieve consensus within the executive.

The Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, was indeed reserved on the subject Thursday: “We do not exclude it, but it is obviously not my main wish because it creates an additional load. and that can thus disturb the normal course of the organization of the establishments ”, he declared on
France Info.

“What is very important is that the vaccines take place from this very moment”, he added, stressing that “the more everyone will arrive vaccinated at the start of the school year, the more it will allow to have a school year serene ”. Contacted, Olivier Véran’s cabinet did not wish to comment or clarify this “working document” produced by the Ministry of Health.
