Vaccination against coronavirus: STIKO recommends boosters after three months

Status: December 21, 2021 2:27 p.m.

Out of concern about the Omikron variant, the Standing Vaccination Commission also advises an earlier third-party corona vaccination. She recommends boosting after just three months. So far, the panel had advised to refresh it after six months.

In view of the threatened rapid spread of the Omikron variant of the coronavirus, the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) has adjusted its recommendation for the booster vaccination. According to the panel, it should be done three months after the full vaccination.

This new recommendation applies immediately to all adults, announced the STIKO. It is to be expected that Omikron will determine the infection process in this country “within a very short time”, it was said to justify. The third vaccination should protect against a possible serious illness and reduce the risk of transmitting the virus.

BioNTech / Pfizer and Moderna “equivalent”

The STIKO called for older people or people with previous illnesses to have priority in the booster vaccination. The vaccines from BioNTech / Pfizer and Moderna intended for the booster vaccination are completely equivalent in their effectiveness.
