There’s a wonderful scene in 1972’s ‘Is Was Doc’, the finest screwball comedy of all time, starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal. Young, bold and hungry, Streisand (aka Judy Maxwell) arrives at a posh hotel in San Francisco and tricks the porter. She is looking for her friends in room 1717 in the Hotel Bristol, she says and looks very cute. The porter reacted indignantly: Room 1717 was not occupied. And this is Christol. Not the Bristol.
