A trans woman got two fellow inmates pregnant while in prison. Now the competent authority is taking action.

In the US state of New Jersey, 27-year-old trans woman Demi M. is serving a 30-year sentence for manslaughter. In Edna Mahan Women’s Prison until June. But then she was transferred to the Garden State Juvenile Prison for male prisoners. The reason: She made two fellow inmates pregnant in the women’s prison. The US media reported unanimously, citing a spokesman for the prison authority.

The pregnancies had already become known in April. At the time, however, it was still unclear which of the prison’s 27 transgender inmates had fathered the children. At the time, a spokesman for the Justice Department said, according to “NJ.com”, that the investigation is ongoing and that the agency reserves “every effort to ensure the health and safety of those in their custody”.

Trans woman complains about separation from pregnant woman

in one Blog entry from June 2nd Demi M. complains that the prison authorities keep her and the pregnant woman apart: they are no longer allowed to meet in prison. Apparently one has now come to the conclusion that the transfer to a prison for male juveniles is the right consequence for Demi M. At the Garden State Juvenile Detention Center, M. is currently the only woman detained at the facility, according to the justice spokesman, and was placed in a protection unit.

Demi M. also confirms the transfer in a blog entry on the Homepage of their support organization “Justice4Demi”. There she writes under the heading “Being forced to live in a male prison” that she was transferred on June 24. In the article, she complains, among other things, that she was addressed as a male when she was transferred and was also searched by male instead of female judicial employees.
