USA – Proud Boys leader condemned – Politics

The leader of the right-wing group “Proud Boys”, Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, has been sentenced to 155 days in prison by a court in Washington. The US Department of Justice announced on Monday that Tarrio had confessed to property damage and possession of weapons accessories. The remainder of the sentence, another 85 days, will be suspended for a three-year probation period. Tarrio is also reported to pay a fine and compensation. Tarrio was involved in a demonstration against the election defeat of US President Donald Trump in Washington in December, in the burning of a “Black Lives Matter” banner that had been stolen from the Church by members of his group. Tarrio had the fact in an interview with the Washington Post frankly admitted. He was then arrested two days before a pro-Trump demonstration on January 6 in Washington. The police found two gun magazines on him. Members of the “Proud Boys” were also involved in the storming of the Capitol on January 6th. Trump had refused to clearly condemn right-wing groups.
