STORY: That was close: just seconds before a stolen police car is hit by a train, officers manage to get the thief and driver out of the car. This is shown by these pictures released by the police in Atlanta, where the incident happened over the weekend. The following had preceded it: A police officer had parked his emergency vehicle on the side of the road to carry out a traffic check. As can be seen in the pictures of his bodycam, he then has to realize that his patrol car is being stolen. A high-speed chase ensued, filmed by the crew of a police helicopter. In the end, the car overturned and came to rest in the middle of these train tracks. Georgia State Patrol officers then managed to extricate the fugitive from his car just before the freight train hit the car. Those arrested are now charged with theft, reckless driving and damaging city property, among other things.
