Another storm is sweeping across the southern United States – and again several people are dying. Experts justify the increase in natural disasters with the consequences of climate change.

A tornado left a path of devastation in the US state of Missouri and claimed the lives of at least five people. The responsible sheriff confirmed the death toll on Wednesday (local time) in a message. The highway police spoke on Twitter of “dead and injured”.

The tornado passed west of the small town of Marble Hill early Wednesday morning. Uprooted trees and completely destroyed houses could be seen on video recordings on US television. Because of the extent of the devastation, a large-scale rescue operation was necessary, the sheriff said.

The weather service had previously warned of tornadoes in the region. At least 26 people died and dozens were injured as a result of violent hurricanes in several US states over the weekend. Media spoke of a rare “monster storm system” that stretched from the southern United States to the Great Lakes region in the north. Experts also attribute the increase in natural disasters in the USA to the consequences of climate change.
