The fact that Nancy Pelosi is now also visiting Taiwan during her trip to Asia is hardly surprising, even if the speaker of the US House of Representatives tried to give the impression on Sunday that she wanted to concentrate on Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. That was the official plan issued by her office that day. In line with Walter Ulbricht’s famous dictum regarding the Berlin Wall, however, that sounded as if it were written: Nobody has the intention of traveling to Taiwan. Though that, as everyone knew, was Pelosi’s intention from the start.
