Two US senators have written to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to end plans to allow young people access to Horizon Worlds’ Metaverse platform.
In a March 1 letter, Senators Edward Markey and Richard Blumenthal saythat Meta’s plan to “inviting young users into the perilous digital space” should not be applied. If the strategy is profit-driven The two lawmakers said allowing teens between the ages of 13 and 17 to access virtual environments was “a real threat”. “Serious risks,” citing privacy concerns, eyestrain, and online bullying.
“Meta’s plan to target young people in the Metaverse is related to your continued failure to protect young users,” Markey and Blumenthal told Zuckerberg. Children and adolescents have caused Meta to lose the trust of the public, including their parents.”

“We are increasingly concerned about the impact of online platforms and social media apps on adolescent well-being. Your scheme to draw these young people into a virtual realm that is unresearched and potentially dangerous and negatively impacts their physical and mental health is unacceptable.”
