“We will continue to investigate and turn every stone until we find out the source and extent of these events,” US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said at a joint press conference with Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

There is still no evidence of who first photographed the secret US government documents and then uploaded them to various online platforms.

More and more explosive information is coming to light

At the same time, more and more sensitive detailed information is coming to light. The “Washington Post” reports on a document that has not yet been published. In it, US intelligence services are pessimistic about the chances of success for a spring offensive in Ukraine.

Defense Secretary Austin said he spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksiy Reznikov on the phone yesterday and said he had full confidence in him and the Ukrainian leadership. “They do what a leader does: They fight the opponent.”

Apparently, the Ukrainian spring offensive is viewed with pessimism

The Washington Post wrote that the Ukrainians are likely to fail in their plans to recapture the territories occupied by Russia. The reason for this are difficulties in increasing troops, ammunition and equipment. The Russian troops are very powerful. The secret services are therefore of the opinion that the spring offensive will bring “modest territorial gains”.

The newspaper report thus contradicts the public assurances of the US government, which constantly praises the military strength of the Ukrainians. Pentagon boss Austin declined to comment. He said:

President Zelenskyi and the leadership have a detailed plan. You have a lot of the skills to be successful. We have trained an enormous number of troops. And we will continue to support them so that they can continue to be successful.

Ukraine: Haven’t changed military plans

Kiev had previously denied reports by US media that it had changed its military plans because of the data leak. US Secretary of State Blinken said he would not comment on the US media debate. Ukraine must decide how to defend itself most effectively against Russian attacks.

At the same time, it became clear that not all media reports about the leaked documents are necessarily credible. Yesterday, a Pentagon spokesman warned against the spread of false information because some papers had been manipulated or even forged.

The “Washington Post” also reported that, according to secret documents, Egypt – an important US ally – wanted to deliver around 40,000 missiles and ammunition to Russia and was deliberately hiding these plans from the West. John Kirby, at least, the communications director of the National Security Council, was able to vehemently deny: “All I can tell you is that we have no evidence that Egypt is supplying lethal weapons or other resources to Russia.”
