After a week-and-a-half manhunt, US police arrested a murder suspect and a correctional officer who allegedly helped him escape from custody. Casey White, 38, and Vicky White, 56, – who are not related – were arrested Monday in Indiana after a chase, Lauderdale, Alabama County Sheriff Rick Singleton said. At the end of the chase there was an accident, Vicky White was then taken to a hospital.
Citing earlier information from the sheriff, the broadcaster CNN reported a possible romantic relationship between Casey White and Vicky White, who are said to have met in 2020. Singleton said on Monday: “We took a dangerous man off the streets today. He will never see the light of day again.” Casey White was serving a 75-year sentence for a wide range of offenses as he escaped from Lauderdale County Jail, police said. He was also charged with the murder of a 58-year-old woman.
Vicky White is accused of helping escape and faces up to ten years in prison. “She has some answers to give us,” Singleton said. According to the sheriff, a tip from the public led to the arrest. Casey White had a $10,000 bounty on his head, and Vicky White had a $5,000 bounty on his head. They had been wanted nationwide since April 29. Police warned they were dangerous and might be armed. CNN reported that before the escape, Vicky White said she was taking Casey White from prison to court – they never got there. Shortly before, the 58-year-old had sold her house well below the market value.
