US Open 2022 – Fixtures and betting tips for Monday: Maria attacks – Williams challenged in night session

The top seeded defending champion Daniil Medvedev meets the underdog Stefan Kozlov (USA) in the Arthur Ashe Stadium at 18:00 German time. Before that (5:00 p.m.), Tatjana Maria, the only active Wimbledon semi-finalist on Monday from a German point of view, can compete with the favored Maria Sakkari (Greece/No. 3).

Serena Williams (USA), who will end her active tennis career after the US Open, is reserved for the first night session from 1:00 a.m. CEST – the 40-year-old meets Danka Kovinić (Montenegro). After Williams, Nick Kyrgios (Australia/No. 23) grabs the bat in an Aussie duel with his doubles partner Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece/No. 4) is in action in the night session at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. The appearances of the former US Open winner Dominic Thiem (against Montreal winner Pablo Carreño Busta) and Stan Wawrinka (against lucky loser Corentin Moutet) will also be interesting.

Tatjana Maria (GER) – Maria Sakkari (GRE/3)

Fourth Grand Slam of the year – third duel between the two “Marias”. While the German was at a disadvantage in the first round of the Australian Open (4: 6, 6: 7), she knocked out the Greek on her way to the semi-finals in Wimbledon in the third round (6: 3, 7: 5).

In a total of three duels, the German left the field twice as the winner (1:1 on hard court). And in view of Sakkari’s recent performances – six defeats in the last nine games – there is also something in New York for the 35-year-old. Betting tip: Tatjana Maria.

Francisco Cerundolo (ARG/24) – Andy Murray (GBR)

Premiere! The 24-year-old Argentinian and the eleven-year-old Brit have never faced each other on the tour. While Cerúndolo is currently almost at his career high in the world rankings (27th place), the three-time Grand Slam winner Murray has worked his way up to 49th again in 2022.

Pablo Carreño Busta (ESP/12) – Dominic Thiem (AUT/WC)

Thiem has won eight of the previous nine duels with the hardcourt specialist from Spain (2022 record: 15-6), but after his protracted wrist injury he is still a long way from the form that gave him the title in New York in 2020.

Carreño Busta, meanwhile, arrives with the tailwind of his first Masters title (Montreal). But he lost in Cincinnati in the first round (6.1, 5:7, 6:7 against Miomir Kecmanovic). Betting tip: Pablo Carreño Busta.

Danka Kovinic (MNE) – Serena Williams (USA/PR)

Each appearance could now be her last – Serena Williams finally announced her career end after the US Open. In 2022, the 23-time Grand Slam winner only played four matches on the tour, of which she lost three. But Kovinic also travels to New York with a black series (0-5). Betting tip: Serena Williams.
