There was another drone attack on a US military base in Syria. At least six Kurdish fighters were killed in the attack by pro-Iranian militias. No casualties have been reported among US troops so far.

At least six Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters were killed and 18 others injured in an attack by pro-Iranian militias on a US military compound in Syria. The US-backed Kurdish SDF said the attack hit a training area at the Al-Omar base in the eastern Syrian province of Dair as-Saur.

The SDF blamed “mercenaries supported by the Syrian regime” for the attack. No casualties were reported among U.S. troops.

First attack since US retaliation

It was the first significant attack in Syria or Iraq since the U.S. retaliated with air strikes for a drone strike on U.S. soldiers in Jordan that killed three service members. The US has blamed the Islamic Resistance in Iraq group – a kind of umbrella organization of Iranian-backed militias – for the attack in Jordan.

On January 28, a drone struck a base in Jordan, killing three US soldiers and injuring more than 40. Washington blamed Iranian-backed groups. The US responded on Friday with a series of strikes on Iran-linked targets in Syria and Iraq and said it would continue retaliation.
