The vote was preceded by a bitter dispute: a majority in the US House of Representatives has now voted for further aid to Ukraine. The opposition Republicans had blocked the project for months.

The US House of Representatives has approved new military aid for Ukraine after months of blockade. With votes from Republicans and Democrats, MPs approved a package that provides around 61 billion dollars (the equivalent of around 57 billion euros) to support Kiev in Russia’s war of aggression.

The project now goes to the second chamber of Congress, the Senate. This can happen on Tuesday at the earliest. There, consent is considered secure.
