US Economy – NYT: Amazon plans major job cuts – Economy

The technology group and mail order company Amazon is planning a report by the New York Times according to the reduction of around 10,000 jobs. Accordingly, it should mainly be about jobs in the equipment division, in retail and in the human resources department. That would be about three percent of the total workforce. Amazon has not yet confirmed the plans. If the job cuts happen on this scale, it would be the largest job cuts in Amazon’s history. Some of the big tech companies in the US are currently trying to reduce their costs. Facebook had recently terminated around 11,000 employees. The new Twitter boss Elon Musk had even laid off half of the approximately 7,500 employees. An interview with company founder Jeff Bezos was broadcast on CNN just hours before the publication of Amazon’s plans. In it, the fourth richest person in the world expressed pessimism about the current economic situation and recommended that small companies cut their costs and prepare for difficult times. In the interview, Bezos also opened up about his plans to donate his gargantuan fortune to charity. He wants to spend a large part of it in his lifetime for the fight against climate change. He wants to put a second focus of his donation activities on bringing people together.
