Jon Watts was part of the marvel universe for seven years. He’s grateful for that, he said. But now he doesn’t want to anymore.

Marvel Studios must find a new director for the planned superhero film «Fantastic Four». In December 2020, Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced a new “Fantastic Four” film directed by Jon Watts (40), but now the “Spider-Man” director has jumped off.

Making three “Spider-Man” films has been a “wonderful and life-changing” experience, Watts said in a statement. He was “eternally grateful” for having been part of the Marvel universe for seven years, quoted the industry journal “Variety” on Saturday from the message.

Feige reacted understandingly. The past collaboration with Watts on the Spiderman adventures was a “true joy”. Marvel hope that their paths will cross again later. Watts directed the blockbusters Homecoming (2017), Far From Home (2019) and No Way Home (2021) for the studio.

Nothing was initially known about a possible successor in the director’s seat for the planned “Fantastic Four” new edition. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the Fantastic Four superheroes as comic book characters in 1961. In 2005, 2007 and most recently in 2015 there were films about the superhero quartet.
