The son of US President Biden has been under investigation for some time, among other things, for possible tax offenses. In the ongoing investigation, the judiciary has now appointed a special investigator.

The US Department of Justice is taking the next step in the Hunter Biden case and is deploying a special investigator in the investigation into US President Biden’s son.

The previously senior prosecutor David Weiss was entrusted with the task. He had previously dealt with Hunter Biden’s finances and business.

Prosecutor has requested role as special counsel

Attorney General Merrick Garland said Weiss had told him that “he believes the investigation has reached a stage where he should continue his work as a special counsel.” With this status, Weiss gains additional powers.

Garland announced his decision in a news conference at the US Department of Justice in Washington on Friday.

Hunter Biden has been struggling with legal troubles for several years. Among other things, he is accused of tax fraud and illegal possession of weapons.

At the end of July, he surprisingly pleaded not guilty in court. A negotiated deal between him and the federal prosecutor’s office to settle the charges had previously failed. The judge had questioned their content.

The federal investigations into the son of the incumbent US President are useful for the opposition Republicans in the election campaign. They also accuse the 53-year-old of corruption in connection with business in Ukraine and China.
