The United States is paying a heavy price for the forthcoming release of five US citizens detained in Iran on apparently fabricated charges. Not only are they freeing Iranians imprisoned in the United States in return, they are also giving Tehran access to $6 billion in oil sales frozen under sanctions against the country. This is not without controversy in Congress, although both political camps welcome the process in principle.
