The US assumes that Russia wants to provide a pretext for an invasion of Ukraine with a fake attack on its territory. The Kremlin has also planned a propaganda video for this, said Pentagon spokesman Kirby.
For weeks, the United States has been accusing Russia of invading Ukraine and wanting to stage the pretext for it. According to Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, “that fits exactly into their script.”
Russia wants to fake a Ukrainian attack on Russian territory or against ethnic Russians and also produce a fake video as evidence of this alleged aggression by Ukraine, says Kirby: “We believe that Russia also produced a very graphic propaganda video as part of this fake attack wants to produce, with corpses, with actors playing mourners, images of destruction by Ukraine and the West, even to the point that some of the military equipment in it should look like it was made available to Ukraine by the West .”
No evidence from Kirby
Kirby did not provide evidence for these claims. And the fake video apparently doesn’t even exist yet, but according to the “New York Times” the Russian side is said to have already selected the appropriate bodies and actors.
It is unclear exactly who is making these plans in Russia and how far they have progressed. Spokesman Kirby explained that this rarely happens without the approval of the top Russian government. There have been similar actions by the Russians before, and the US government thinks it is important to make these plans public immediately.
The right strategy
Democratic Senator Mark Warner finds exactly the right strategy. As chairman of the intelligence committee, he has been informed about alleged Russian plans for weeks.
For example, Moscow also wants to replace the Zelenskyi government with a pro-Russian leadership, Warner says on CNN: “This is the third time in the past 30 days that the Americans and British have dared to go very far and say: ‘If there is a If there’s a coup, in Ukraine, that’s on Russia. Or now, this evidence of a possible false flag operation. And these intelligence warnings are not only effective, they’re new in that way.”

In any case, these reports have at least one effect: Democrats and Republicans rarely agree, but they do agree that Russia is planning another invasion of Ukraine. Probably not during the Winter Olympics in Beijing, but as long as the ground in Ukraine is frozen and tanks roll more easily, Democrat Warner believes.
And his Republican colleague Lindsay Graham said after the secret service briefing on Ukraine: “We live in very dangerous times. And I want my compatriots to know: If you think it’s none of your business, then you’re wrong.”
