Standard dimensions of bathtubs

There is a wide choice of tubs and sizes.

The different lengths of the bathtubs:

  • Less than 1.05 meter : Up to this size, a bathtub is very compact and will easily find its place in a small bathroom;
  • From 1.05 to 1.50 meters : a bathtub of this type can be rectangular, but also angled or asymmetrical.
  • From 1.51 to 1.69 meters : you will enjoy a more comfortable bath length, because you will be able to extend your legs better;
  • from 1.70 to 1.79 meters : With a length within this range of dimensions, the bathtub can be installed in a standard size bathroom to enjoy a comfortable bath;
  • beyond 1.80 meters : the bathtub is then qualified as large and is designed for tall people with a fairly spacious bathroom.

The different widths of the bathtubs:

  • less than 70 cm : these are therefore small-format bathtubs intended to meet a bathroom size requirement;
  • from 70 to 79 cm : this standard width offers sufficient comfort for most sizes;
  • from 80 to 90 cm : with a width within this range, the bathtub will provide a comfortable space;
  • beyond 90 cm : this width is that of whirlpool bathtubs or corner bathtubs. Baths of this type thus benefit from a large capacity.

It is possible to find baths up to 150 cm wide to accommodate two people, or in the case of comfortable baths offered among the spa models.

Choose the dimensions for your bathtub

Regarding the bathtub, the ideal length and width will vary depending on different factors.

  • For logical reasons, the dimensions of your bathroom are indeed to be taken into consideration.
  • Use that you want to make the bathtub should also be taken into account, for example, if you want a bathtub to relax in or to allow children to take a bath, etc.
  • The choice of a bathtub also depends the size of users. The larger these are, the better it will be to choose a tub that has a good length. This way everyone can stretch and relax. But if you are of a normal size, to be comfortable and pleasant, the tub should not be too long either.
  • In width, measure your build and add between 5 and 10 centimeters to know the dimension you need.

However, the standard size of a bathtub is 1.70 meters long and 0.75 meters wide.

The height of the bathtub is also very important. Generally speaking, it is 55 cm. However, there are variations. Built-in models are often lower. It is possible to find them from 40 cm. Some even offer a smaller depth to be more easily accessible.

The different types of bathtub

On the market, bathtubs are available in different types of models.

The back-to-back bathtub

This is the most common model used in bathrooms. It is installed, as its name suggests, leaning against one or more walls. It can be placed at an angle and, in this case, it leans against two walls. It is also possible to embed it, in this case, it is based on 3 walls. It then requires dressing on the side (s) that are not against the walls.

The hip bath

The hip bath is intended for smaller bathrooms. It consists of two levels, which allows you to settle comfortably in a smaller space. However, it is not possible to lie down on it.

The corner bath

This solution makes it possible to take advantage of a fairly large bathroom space without taking up too much space. However, its quarter-round shape does not allow an adult to lie down, but it adapts to all spaces. Just lean it against two walls. Its dimensions are generally between 120 and 180 cm. It is also aesthetic and will give a chic look to your bathroom. It requires the installation of a bath screen to dress the front.

The freestanding bathtub

The freestanding bathtub brings a trendy touch to your bathroom. It requires specific installation for the pedestal taps and water drainage since it can be placed almost anywhere in the bathroom. This is the only constraint for this type of tub. Indeed, it does not need to be placed against a wall, but, at the time of installation, one can choose to do so for practical reasons. In this case, it will be necessary to choose a model whose shape is adapted to this type of positioning.

The bathtub with door

This bathtub is suitable for seniors or people having difficulty stepping over the edge of the bathtub. You just have to open the door to get in and out more easily. It is also possible to opt for an all-in-one model which also includes a shower column.

The spa bath

Want to enjoy good relaxing baths? Bet on the spa bath. It will allow you to enjoy a good massage while taking your bath. It exists in a corner version or in a large format to enjoy it for two. Its many variations make it accessible regardless of the size of the bathroom.
