Unterschleißheim – Landshuter Straße further without bike path – district of Munich

A redevelopment of Landshuter Straße is now more specifically planned in the Unterschleißheim town hall – for the time being, however, construction will only take place underground. Because the local Geothermie AG is planning to expand the district heating network there, including for the new fire brigade and the new daycare center on Ganghofer Straße, the city has now specified the long-term renovation plans for the street.

However, the city council is not completely happy with the in-depth planning. The building committee complained from several sides that there was no coherent bicycle concept for such a central traffic artery. Landshuter Strasse, once a state road, was taken over by the city in 2014. In 2020, a long-term rehabilitation plan was drawn up in three stages. It was stipulated that bicycle traffic should take place on the roadway and that the footpath could be used if necessary; own bike lanes were not provided.

During the first specification, the Greens, ÖDP and CSU warned that “take a closer look” at the later detailed work on the offers for cyclists, as Jürgen Radtke (Greens) said. In view of the size of the road and the intensification of cycling, the minimum solution is somewhat poor. Mayor Christoph Böck (SPD) referred to the decisions in the rehabilitation planning for this solution. In any case, with a planned widening of the sidewalk to up to 3.50 meters in some cases, there is “a little more safety and comfort for pedestrians and cyclists”.

The plans for the section from Keltenschanze to Carl-von-Linde-Straße are being shelved for the time being

At the time of the takeover, “numerous damaged asphalt surfaces” were already registered on Landshuter Strasse, as was “the dilapidated condition of the edging”. The entire road drainage is “only partially functional”. In total, all three sections are expected to cost a good 2.2 million euros for renovation, which is why the project has not yet found its way into municipal measures.

A central topic of optimization is also to level the “threshold” in the area where Landshuter Straße meets Furtweg. At the time when the state road was connected to Furtweg, the heights had not been adjusted, resulting in an extremely noticeable threshold in the roadway. The construction committee has now decided on the solution variant of raising Landshuter Straße over a distance of around 100 meters in order to level the threshold. This is significantly cheaper than grinding down the threshold. To do this, all the pipes and ducts would have to be laid underground, which would drive up the costs and more than double the construction time with traffic obstruction.

The plans for stages one and two of the renovation from Keltenschanze to Carl-von-Linde-Straße, which were unanimously approved by the committee, will now disappear again into the drawer, implementation is not planned in the short and medium term. On the basis of the plans, however, Geothermie AG will start laying the pipes this year. Construction work is expected in the two sections of two times nine weeks. The lane will be closed on one side and traffic will be regulated with a traffic light.
