Unterhaching – Red card for cars – District of Munich

Barely finished, the Unterhaching elementary and middle school at the sports park was already too small again. The municipal council has long since decided to expand the building complex, which opened in 2014, to create six additional classrooms. But where should the extension go if not on the previous open space? However, a school cannot do without them, just as it cannot do without the bicycle and scooter parking spaces, for which the school premises will be even tighter when the extension is to be completed at the beginning of the school year in 2023. In its most recent meeting, the municipal council therefore decided to create space for the children’s vehicles in the parking lot at the stadium. Instead of 35 cars, bikes and scooters are to be accommodated here in the future.

The bike racks originally built for the school are already not enough for the many Unterhaching elementary and middle school students. This spring, additional parking spaces were created outside the school grounds along the fence to ease the burden. With the extension in the east of the building, the entire outdoor facilities are now being re-sorted. This also includes a caretaker’s tool shed, which has to give way to the new building wing. It is to be relocated to a part of the recycling depot which, according to the administration, will be vacated by the removal of tons from the gaming association. The new bicycle parking facility on the previous car park is to be partially covered, but not fenced off. It can also be used externally for soccer games, soccer training and when visiting a beer garden.

The problem with this rescheduling was initially the key to the parking space. Because the parking spaces at the stadium, which are now no longer available, were previously necessary for the parking space verification of the stadium. As a user of the stadium, the municipality has now agreed with the game association that it will only be able to provide a smaller number of parking spaces in the future. If more is needed when the sports facility is in full operation, the club has to “compensate” for the missing places, reports the administration.

The aim of the schoolyard is to gain more open space and to make it more child-friendly and friendly compared to the existing situation. Because not only the lunchtime care “Freiraum” with 130 children is housed in the school building. There are also more and more full-time students; When the decision was made to expand last year, there were already 90. For them there should not only be more space in the school building, but also more attractive outdoor facilities.

Eva Karbaumer, the group spokeswoman for the Greens, praised the design. They very much welcome the fact that the terrain is not being reduced. “We support everything that makes the outdoor area attractive, see the enlargement of the area by outsourcing the parking lots and scooter spaces, the tap for water and the large trees that provide shade,” she said. The Greens are convinced that all-day care will come. “This means that children from the 1st grade onwards are looked after in school all day, five days a week,” says Karbaumer.

In order to enable the healthy development of children and also to compensate for disadvantages, it is very important to plan a stimulating, natural exterior design of the school, which enables movement and natural and environmental experiences. “So in the area where there is already a lot of concrete and asphalt on the ground, we don’t need a plastic-based floor, but as many green areas, bushes, even hiding places, modeled terrain”, she demands.
