Unterhaching: Recycling center opens junk corner under a new name – District of Munich

What should you do with well-preserved things that are too good to be thrown away? Up until about a year ago there was a junk corner in the Unterhaching community’s recycling center on Biberger Straße. Crockery, glasses, cutlery, porcelain, ceramics, decorations and vases, toys, flower pots and small pieces of furniture were saved from the bin. Flea market goods from people who didn’t want any money for them or who simply didn’t feel like selling the goods for sale. In principle a resource-saving offer. However, not only Unterhachinger rummaged here for usable items, but also a large number of dealers. The community justified the closure that would have literally overrun the junk corner and disrupted the work flow at the recycling center. Now the junk corner is opening again with a new concept and a new name: Schatzkammerl.

In Unterhaching, it was not without a way to get rid of discarded but well-preserved items with a clear conscience. A look at the recycling centers, which are spread across the entire community, was enough to get this certainty. Because in addition to glass, waste paper and plastic garbage that is collected there, people increasingly put their old clutter in the little houses and probably believed: Someone will take the stuff with them. Sometimes it was a pile of old plates, then a collection of board games, now and then a carpet, a lampshade or a package of shelves. Of course, none of this belongs in the recycling center, but it can now be handed in to the treasure chamber.

However, nothing can be taken away here, also because the distances cannot be maintained in Corona times. Instead, the items are donated to social institutions, currently to the Klawotte. Only items in good condition will be accepted, no damaged or worn items. Books, clothes or fabrics have no place in the treasure chamber either. Electrical devices are also not welcome for insurance protection reasons. The community hopes that the new concept will be accepted as well as the former junk corner. The things can of course also be donated directly to social institutions.
