A 61-year-old man handed over almost 50,000 euros to the wrong police officer in Unterhaching on Tuesday. According to the Munich police, the tricksters used a well-known scam: A perpetrator called the man at around 2:20 p.m., pretended to be an official and explained to him that a list with his name had been found in the course of the investigation into burglary crime . The victim was not only persuaded to hand over cash kept at home to an alleged police officer as a precaution; he even withdrew extra money, which he gave to a second offender. It was only a few hours later that the 61-year-old recognized the fraud and contacted the real police. She is now looking for witnesses who noticed something suspicious on Tuesday afternoon in the area of Von-Vollmar-Strasse and St.-Alto-Strasse in Unterhaching that could be related to the case. According to the victim’s description, the two perpetrators were about 1.85 meters tall, wore dark parkas, dark pants and dark mouth and nose protection and spoke standard German.
