Unterföhring – million dollar project for school renovation – district of Munich

The renovation of the elementary school on Bahnhofstrasse in Unterföhring is becoming more and more concrete – and, above all, much more expensive, as it now turns out to the horror of many local councils. It has been clear since last year that above all the “blue box” (built in 1964) and its yellow extension (1996) will be renovated; Fire protection and the energy concept are too outdated. The educational classroom concept also no longer meets current requirements, let alone future ones. The new school campus on Mitterfeldallee, on the other hand, does this. However, since all primary school children in Unterföhringen should continue to experience the same standard of upbringing and education, more must be replenished on Bahnhofstrasse.

At the municipal council meeting on Thursday evening, however, the cost calculation was presented and some council members rubbed their eyes: Instead of almost six million euros, as originally presented, the renovation project is now heading for up to 24.5 million euros. This is mainly due to mandatory surcharges, contemporary sustainable materials and fire protection regulations, it said from the town hall. In addition, the full pedagogical concept, including the corresponding furniture, was not yet integrated in the template from last year.

The members of the municipal council expressed their satisfaction that the light dome of the elementary school will definitely remain – as well as the auditorium and the music room. Now all three floors will continue to be fed with daylight and the music room will be included. The municipal council can only decide on possible, more detailed sustainability measures such as a photovoltaic system on the roof once the current draft has been finally approved. This should happen on September 16th. The parliamentary groups can submit requests for changes over the summer break. The common goal remains to start the renovation in early 2022.
