Unterföhring leaves the school association and takes 25 million – Munich district

There were only two left: After the community of Ismaning, Unterföhring officially left the association for the grammar school in Garching. In the meeting on Wednesday, all previous members agreed to leave at the end of 2021. Now only the city of Garching and the district of Munich remain in the special purpose association of the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium (WHG).

Unterföhring leaves the association because the media community is now the seat of a grammar school itself; the Unterföhring grammar school, currently the youngest in the district, started operations in the 2020/21 school year. That is why Mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer (PWU) submitted the application to leave in October 2020. The municipality of Ismaning has already taken this step after the completion of its grammar school. It was therefore only a matter of time before Unterföhring would follow suit.

However, the decision costs the remaining porters dearly. On the one hand, the partners agreed on the modalities when Ismaning left. These state that leaving members will get part of their investment for the WHG back. In Unterföhring’s case, that’s almost three million euros that the city of Garching now has to raise and pay to the association. In addition, the wealthy Unterföhring gave the Zweckverband a loan of 25 million euros in 2012 to finance the demolition of the old building and the new construction of the school. The media community will also take this with them when they leave – which makes it necessary for the Zweckverband to take out a loan from a bank for the said amount.
