Unterföhring – culture festival canceled – district of Munich

The corona pandemic thwarted the Unterföhring cultural office last autumn – and this year there will be nothing with a subsequent spectacle: the celebrations for the ten-year anniversary of the community center could not take place as planned. Access restrictions also applied to the anniversary play rehearsed by the Bürgerbühne. Now, a year later, it won’t work again because the pandemic is far from over.

According to the head of the cultural department, Barbara Schulte-Rief, the civil culture festival planned for September 24th to 26th cannot take place as planned. Because of the official assessment of the situation and the current requirements, Unterföhring has to give up planning the major event for the postponed birthday party of the community center “with a heavy heart today”. However, efforts are being made to organize individual events in a smaller version in order to comply with the applicable distance rules and hygiene measures and thus to be able to guarantee the safety of the audience, said Schulte-Rief. A program overview for the autumn and winter season is to be published in August.

Schulte-Rief was also able to report something positive at the meeting of the youth and culture committee on Thursday evening: A large number of culture fans did not have their tickets already bought and paid for, although most of the events had to be canceled due to corona. In this way, more than 10,500 euros have been collected to date, which, after consultation with the finance department, have been distributed as a donation to artists who are particularly affected by the pandemic.
