Unoccupied apartments served as heroin labs

Thousands of euros, “significant quantities of narcotics”… It was a banal procedure for unpaid rents in September 2021 which made it possible to discover the pot of roses. Two laboratories which were used to package heroin were dismantled in apartments in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) and three people were thus indicted and imprisoned.

The investigation carried out by the judicial police of Nancy “made it possible to dismantle a laboratory for the cutting and packaging of heroin on a large scale” and the “significant quantities of narcotic product, cutting product and money”. Seized the resale value of the products discovered is estimated “at around 350,000 euros”, said the public prosecutor of Nancy, François Pérain, in a press release.

“At the top of the network”

The bailiff at the origin of the investigation had discovered during his intervention an apartment which “was not furnished” and “did not correspond at all to a place of life”, according to the prosecutor: “it was arranged as a conditioning laboratory, ”explained the deputy director of the judicial police of Nancy, Guillaume Crivelli. Inside, only “a door unhinged and placed on two trestles” serves as a table. The investigators discovered a whole set of paraphernalia for making heroin “loaves”, including cutting product, scales and a press, “a bulky and characteristic tool for pressing heroin”, specified the prosecutor.

The judicial police also found the DNA of two people in the apartment: the police set up surveillance systems allowing them to identify a third suspect and to go back to a second apartment which was also used to package heroin, according to the floor. In this second apartment, the police seized 56,490 euros in cash, a weapon and ammunition, nearly 6 kg of pure heroin and 17 kg of cutting products, as well as all the equipment necessary for packaging the heroin.

“The singularity of this case is that usually, we come across the “nurses” and the resale networks of neighborhoods or cities, but here we are at the very top of the network”, underlined the director of police, adding that the investigation would continue. The three suspects, one of whom was already serving a six-month prison sentence for domestic violence, were indicted on Saturday and remanded in custody.
