Surprise before the summit in the Chancellery: The Union-led federal states, but also Baden-Württemberg, governed by the Green Party Winfried Kretschmann, want to examine a new path in asylum policy.
In the preliminary discussions for the federal-state summit with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the Union-led federal states, together with the Green Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, agreed that in the future asylum procedures should be possible directly in countries outside of Europe. Accordingly, Scholz is to be asked that “the determination of the protection status of refugees should also take place in third countries in the future, in compliance with the Geneva Refugee Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights,” it learned Southgerman newspaper from national circles.
