Union agrees to collective bargaining agreement at Lufthansa

As of: April 24, 2024 2:56 p.m

There are no longer any new strikes in sight at Lufthansa. The collective agreement for the airline’s cabin crew has received the approval of the UFO union. A ballot produced a clear vote.

The members of the UFO union have agreed to the collective agreement with Lufthansa for cabin crew. The union announced that the approval rate for the ballot was 80.5 percent. This means that the negotiated higher remuneration for the airline’s approximately 19,000 flight attendants takes effect. According to the union, the vote results show that it was worth fighting – even with strikes, according to UFO chairman Joachim Vázquez Bürger.

A first strike vote at the beginning of the year during the negotiations resulted in a clear majority in favor of a strike, which then took place in March. According to Lufthansa’s new offer, cabin employees will receive a total of 16.5 percent more standard salary in three stages from May. The term is 36 months until the end of 2026. There is also an inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros and increases in various allowances. These include allowances for holiday pay or for foreign language skills.

An agreement for Cityline and Discover employees is still pending

However, the agreement does not include the employees on the aircraft of the Lufthansa subsidiaries Cityline and Discover. Discussions with the group are ongoing for both companies, UFO said. Union leader Bürger hopes “that we will soon have our Lufthansa Cityline colleagues vote on a similarly good collective bargaining package and can announce the first collective bargaining agreements at Discover Airlines.”

It was only at the end of March that Lufthansa and the ver.di union agreed on a collective agreement for ground staff after a total of five warning strikes. Those working there receive up to 18 percent more pay. The approximately 25,000 employees will receive seven percent more money retroactively to January 1, 2024, but at least 280 euros more.
