Uniform, abaya, holidays… Emmanuel Macron’s announcements at HugoDécrypte

It was the political event of the new school year. Emmanuel Macron let himself be interviewed Monday evening by YouTuber HugoDécrypte to address young people. During this interview broadcast live on YouTube and TikTok, the President of the Republic returned to various subjects such as the school uniform, the question of the ban on the abaya and the kamis in schools or even the rhythm school. Back to the main statements of the evening.

school uniform

Like a boomerang, with the start of the school year, it is a debate that is coming back in force. Emmanuel Macron said he was in favor of “experiments” and an “evaluation” of the wearing of school uniforms, pronouncing for his part rather for a “unique outfit”, “much more acceptable for teenagers” . “I am in favor of the experimentation, evaluation approach”, he declared, after recalling that originally it was “rather for each establishment to manage the thing” but that the question now took on “proportions crazy” in the public debate.

“There is the uniform and there is also the unique outfit. Without having a uniform, you can say ‘you put on jeans, a T-shirt and a jacket’”, he argued. “The issue of unique dress is in my opinion more acceptable, may seem a little less strict from a disciplinary point of view,” he added. “It regulates many subjects (…): one, secularism and two, a little the idea that we have of decency, that is to say we do not want too eccentric outfits”, a- he again underlined.

Abaya and Samuel Paty

The President of the Republic remained on the subject of the habit at school by evoking the ban on the abaya which he partly explained by the terrorist attacks and the assassination of Samuel Paty. “We also live in our society with a minority, people who, hijacking a religion, come to challenge the Republic and secularism,” said the head of state.

“It sometimes gave the worst. We cannot pretend that there was no terrorist attack and Samuel Paty,” he said. “I’m just saying: this system is there,” continued Emmanuel Macron. “It happened because a teacher was learning secularism in his class and then there was this runaway with social networks and people who then committed the worst. »

One student, one tree

The Head of State did not just talk about rags, he also set the goal of seeing all middle school students in France plant a tree, starting this year in sixth grade. “I want us to have from sixth grade this year, that we start to have students who plant trees,” he said the head of state.

He felt that it would not be possible “for all of the sixth graders” this year, but hoped that we would eventually have “this generation where each college student will have planted his tree”, to “help” to meet the objective. one billion trees planted in ten years.

Towards the unlimited train at 49 euros per month

It’s a small revolution in Germany that could spread to France. It is now possible to travel there for 49 euros per month thanks to a new transport ticket. An idea that apparently appeals to the president.

“Yes, I’m in favor of it. I asked the Minister of Transport to launch with all the regions that are ready to do so the same device, he said. The reality here is that the regions are responsible for pricing their tickets. But all regions that are ready to do so with the state, banco. »

The question of school timetables

Shorten the holidays? It is not an idea that Emmanuel Macron excludes. The president wishes to reopen “this question of holidays or rather of school time during the year”. “We don’t have the best conditions for learning. We have less sport, cultural and artistic activities than our neighbors, with summer holidays which are much longer, he explained. We must open this subject, it should not be a taboo. Students would learn better if we redesigned that. »

Speaking of sport at school, Emmanuel Macron would like students to be able to do an hour a day because “sport helps you learn better, it’s a health tool and it provides a framework”.
