UNESCO title: Schweinfurt Battle Bowl is a cultural heritage site – Bavaria

When you think of Bavaria, you often think of clichés. This is partly thanks to tourism marketing; However, there are truly worse things than the image of cows on the mountain pasture, golden beer and lederhosen. However, very few people think about the Schweinfurt battle bowl. She is memorable though.

In fact: The court and the associated procedure have been considered intangible UNESCO cultural heritage since last week. A custom cannot be given more honor. The Schweinfurter Schlachtschale is “a social and culinary ritual practiced from September to April” that has been offered around Schweinfurt since the middle of the 19th century. This is what it says in a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Up to 150 people take part in a meal and the meat is “served table by table”. There is also singing – although vegans are probably more speechless given the masses of meat. This in turn is likely to increase the value of the battle bowl in some circles. The world is already waiting eagerly for a battle bowl selfie from Markus Söder. Unfortunately, he is currently on a trip to China and therefore far away from the Schweinfurt kitchens.

The Prime Minister could use the opportunity to explain the Chinese carnival in Dietfurt to his hosts. Because this event, in which Upper Palatinate residents dressed in Chinese costumes parade through the city, is now also part of the intangible cultural heritage. The same applies, among other things, to the boys’ choirs in Regensburg, Augsburg, Bad Windsbach and Bad Tölz, the gold-beater craft in Schwabach and towing on the Ludwig-Donau-Main Canal.

And so there are now 82 cultural forms in the Bavarian state directory. The “Bavarian brewing tradition” also made it into earlier rounds. However, Upper Bavarian alpine farming, leather trousers sewing and other beloved clichés have not yet been included. Therefore, at this point we would like to urgently ask UNESCO to take care of the following intensively lived traditions: maintaining radio holes in the Bavarian Forest, wind turbine allergy in southern Bavaria, scolding Berlin (Bavarian-wide, local focus on CSU and FW regulars’ meetings).
