Unemployment rises in June – Bavaria

Unemployment in Bavaria rose in June. As of June 13, 230,606 people were unemployed, which is 21,048 or ten percent more than in the previous month. This was announced by the Bavarian regional office of the Federal Employment Agency on Thursday in Nuremberg. The reason for this increase is the influx of refugees from Ukraine. According to this, 25,201 unemployed people with Ukrainian citizenship were registered in the Free State. This corresponds to 10.9 percent of all unemployed.

The unemployment rate in Bavaria was 3.1 percent in June, just 0.3 percentage points below the previous year’s figure. Without the Ukrainian unemployed, unemployment would have fallen by 1,808 or 0.9 percentage points compared to the previous month – however, this calculated decline is also significantly lower than in the past few months. “The increase in unemployment in June is therefore not seasonal, but as expected,” said Ralf Holtzwart, head of the regional directorate.
