“Stress is for underperformers,” the Bundeswehr quotes a general on its website as saying. Many soldiers see things very differently – and report on Twitter about years of 14-hour days, therapy and a lack of understanding from superiors.

A discussion has started in the Bundeswehr about the limits of the personal capabilities of soldiers and how to deal with weaknesses within the troops. For a few days now, members of the Bundeswehr have been publishing reports of their experiences under the hashtag #performance-weak about a leadership culture that is apparently still widespread, in which overwork is not taken into account.
