Under Bavaria: The prescribed search for a hostel – Bavaria

Between all the holidays, you could almost gain confidence and believe that maybe the idiots weren’t in the majority after all. Maybe there is still hope after all, for the elections in the East or over in the USA, maybe Putin and Trump will have to give up after all, and maybe not everything will go down the drain in the Middle East either. It would be nice, wouldn’t it?

But then you hear a story like the one from Uffing am Staffelsee again. Asylum seekers live there in a house that was rented as accommodation by the district office. Three families are accommodated there. One from Afghanistan, with six children, has been there since 2021. The people are now recognized as refugees and have been looking for an apartment for a long time. According to the group of helpers, they are well integrated and always helpful when there is something to do in the community. The father is a trained nurse and two of the children want to start training as medical assistants and pediatric nurses soon.

Three days before Christmas, the family received a notice from the Garmisch district office that they had to vacate their apartment and move to a lonely, remote house near Wallgau by January 4th. The district office probably thinks that anyone who has been on the run for three years with six children on the Balkan route doesn’t care whether they integrate in Uffing or in Wallgau. After the supervising lawyer objected that the decision had no legal basis, the officially ordered search for a hostel was called off.

The old spontaneous saying: “Legal, illegal, don’t give a shit,” the authorities then realized, just doesn’t quite fit a district office. Now the family is supposed to temporarily move to an accommodation facility in Murnau. The responsible press office explains that the eight people cannot be left in Uffing because of their behavior. The family is blamed for a broken tap and clogged drains, “and the family has not been able to separate their waste properly for years.” The only thing missing is that she actively refused to trim any existing hedges to the level of German dominant culture.

Sounds a bit as if an offended caretaker soul was hurt here. Of course, a district administrator has no choice but to order an immediate move. It always depends on who or what you feel most committed to
