Neil Patrick Harris’ new series “Uncoupled” says goodbye forever after one season. Things had looked different for a long time.

Apparently the series “Uncoupled” will not be continued after all. As the US industry portal “Deadline” reports, the broadcaster Showtime has now decided not to produce season two of the comedy series by “Emily in Paris” creator Darren Star (62) and “Modern Family” author Jeffrey Richman.

This turnaround comes a little over a year after Showtime picked up the series, according to the report. Netflix had previously canceled it after one season. A team was supposedly redeveloping the project for its new home. According to Deadline, the broadcaster has been working on it for months. The scripts are said to have been largely finished. Nevertheless, the decision has now been made not to make a second season.

Filming should have started long ago

The series’ lead actor, “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris (50), is said to have stated in June that filming for season two should actually begin at the beginning of July. However, production was delayed due to the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike, which caused months of shutdowns last year.

In “Uncoupled,” Harris played a man in his mid-40s struggling to make ends meet as a single man in New York City after being dumped by his partner after 17 years together. The main cast of the first season also included Tisha Campbell (55), Brooks Ashmanskas (54) and Marcia Gay Harden (64).

“Uncoupled” premiered on Netflix in July 2022. The first season received mostly positive reviews, but apparently wasn’t particularly well received by the streaming service’s viewers. The series landed, according to The Hollywood Reporter only appeared in Netflix’s internal top 10 rankings once, a week after its release.
