UN Special Envoy Angelina Jolie pledges help to Ukraine refugees

Angelina Jolie is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. As such, it has pledged its fullest support to Ukraine. On Instagram, she informs her followers about the current refugee situation.
The US actress Angelina Jolie has also been a humanitarian activist for decades and is also a UN goodwill envoy. On Instagram, the 46-year-old turned to her followers with posts about the Ukraine war and confirmed her support for the refugees.
Angelina Jolie has sent prayers to Ukraine, affirming: “My focus now, and that of my UNHCR colleagues, is that everything possible is done for the protection and basic human rights of displaced people and refugees from this region.” It is still too early to assess the full extent of this tragedy. “But the importance of this moment, for the people of Ukraine and for the international rule of law, cannot be overstated.”
The shock, sadness and anger at the bloodshed in Ukraine leaves no one indifferent. Numerous national and international stars are committed to the attacked country and take part in fundraising campaigns for the victims. US star Angelina Jolie plays a special role here. Not only has she been a UNHCR special envoy for a good two decades (UNHCR stands for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), in April 2012 she was also appointed UNHCR special envoy.
A “tireless defender of refugees”
A second video posted by Angelina Jolie on her Instagram feed shows the border with Moldova. In the description of the video, the actress writes: “More than 50,000 people have fled Ukraine within 48 hours. My colleagues from UNHCR sent me this video, it is on the border between Moldova and Ukraine.”
On the UN website Jolie is praised as a “tireless defender of refugees” who has already visited more than 40 crisis regions and has “acquired a wealth of expert knowledge” during her travels. She also supported the facility with donations. As a special envoy, she was given the status in 2012 to “represent UNHCR at the diplomatic level and to advocate for the needs of refugees.”
