The Chancellor has brought reinforcements with him. Sitting alongside Olaf Scholz during the opening of this year’s general debate at the United Nations are Annalena Baerbock and Steffi Lemke, the Ministers for Foreign Affairs and the Environment. The evening before, four members of the federal government – including Development Minister Svenja Schulze – had invited people to a party with sausages and sauerkraut at the UN headquarters to mark Germany’s 50th anniversary of membership in the United Nations. This year, Germany is celebrating in New York and is combining it with a whole series of resolutions and wishes.
