Ukrainian refugees admitted to the Gymnasium first port of call – Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

The first 52 Ukrainian war refugees arrived at the district’s initial reception center on Sunday. As reported by the district authority, the gymnasium of the Geretsried middle school, which is available for this purpose, was set up earlier than originally expected. Therefore, people could be admitted one day before the originally planned date.

According to the district office, 31 adults and 21 children, who are mainly fleeing in families, were taken by bus directly from Munich to the gym on Adalbert-Stifter-Strasse. Almost all of them were subjected to a rapid corona test before the bus left Munich and four were retested in Geretsried. All results were negative. Those who had arrived in Geretsried received a hygiene package and something to eat; they would now also be able to do their laundry. The plan is for the refugees to stay in the gymnasium, which is equipped with partitions, seating furniture and beds, for two to three days before they can be transferred to another accommodation.

In this context, the district office points out that apartments for the refugees are still urgently needed. In the district, 181 places are already occupied by people who have come to the region privately. Offers for the accommodation of people with pets would now also be needed.

At the press conference last Friday, those responsible in the district office assumed that the first refugees assigned to the district by the government of Upper Bavaria should arrive on Monday. But when it became clear that the gym could be prepared earlier and at the same time more and more Ukrainian refugees were reaching Munich, the plan was changed. A bus was expected again on Monday. Those who have tested positive for Corona cannot be accommodated in the first port of call in the gym. They are taken to other accommodations for quarantine and cared for there.
