Volodymyr Zelensky still believes in Ukraine’s victory in the war against Russia. To this end, he is making a demand to the Western allies.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated the need for foreign arms supplies for Ukraine’s future. “Above all, we need the air defense systems. First of all, we have to be able to defend ourselves,” he said in an interview with the “Bild” newspaper. Nevertheless, he still believes in victory. There are already plans for a new counteroffensive.
Because Putin only understands power: “He feels like an animal: If you can’t defend yourself, he will destroy even more. His wish is to take over the entire Ukraine.” Especially without the new US weapons package, which the Republicans are still blocking, he sees a bleak future: “He will destroy everything. He will kill a lot of people.”
For this reason, Zelenskyj also contacted Donald Trump so that he could get a personal picture. He is looking forward to Trump’s suggestions: “I think if Trump actually has his own approach to ending the war quickly, then I would be very happy to listen to the idea. But we need strong arguments. We don’t need a fantastic idea, but a real one.”
Zelensky on Scholz: Shouldn’t be a peace chancellor
But the Ukrainian president also holds Germany accountable. “Our partners have certain weapons that we need today to survive. Ukraine needs them to survive and I just don’t understand why we don’t get these weapons,” he explained, also targeting the blocked Taurus shipment away.
However, he tries to understand Scholz: “We talk about the topic. I think the topic is not that simple.” According to Zelenskyj’s understanding, the Chancellor said that Germany is not a nuclear power and that Taurus is the strongest weapon for national defense.
However, according to “Bild”, Zelensky praised his relationship with the Chancellor. However, he also warned that Scholz should not listen to voices like SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich who want to “freeze” the war. Scholz “will not be a peace chancellor if he wants to freeze this war,” said the Ukrainian.
