Volodymyr Zelenskyj landed at Frankfurt Airport completely unexpectedly. Appointments for the Ukrainian president are apparently scheduled in Hesse.

Update from Thursday, December 14th, 5:15 p.m.: Now further details are known about Volodymyr Selenskyj’s surprise visit to Hesse. Accordingly, the Ukrainian president flew to Frankfurt to visit the Clay barracks in Wiesbaden. The US Army is housed here. Military aid to Ukraine is coordinated from Clay Barracks. Zelensky met high-ranking NATO and US Army representatives.

The Frankfurt police said on X, formerly Twitter: “The Ukrainian President’s stopover at the Clay barracks in Wiesbaden will soon be over. There will again be short-term closures for departures from Germany.” This means: Zelenskyj will apparently not spend the night in Hesse, but will be escorted back to Frankfurt Airport.

Apparently he landed at Frankfurt Airport in the early afternoon hours, as the police announced via X, formerly Twitter. The exact background to his visit is unclear.
