Watch the video: Zelenskyi dismisses Defense Minister Resnikov

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismisses Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov. He believes that the ministry needs new approaches and other formats of interaction, both with the military and with society as a whole, Zelenskyj justified his project in a video speech on Sunday. Resnikov has been in office for more than 550 days of war. He will ask Parliament later this week to replace Reznikov with Rustem Umerov. Umerov is currently the head of Ukraine’s main privatization fund. The 41-year-old was also involved in negotiations on the Black Sea Grains Agreement. Resnikov was appointed defense minister in November 2021. He has helped secure billions of dollars in Western military aid to Ukraine. However, there were also allegations of corruption against his ministry. Resnikov called this slander. The change of defense minister has to be approved by Parliament. Zelenskyi said he expected MPs to approve Umerov’s appointment.
