Ukraine war: Kirill did not want to kill. So he got in a cab and fled

Kirill Berezin, a carpenter from Saint Petersburg, didn’t want to go to war. He was drafted anyway. Before his assignment in Ukraine, he fled his unit by taxi. Now a court has sent him back.

When the court decided on his life, Kirill suffered a panic attack: after the trial, a friend had to take him to a hospital. “They’ll probably kill me,” he told reporters. “I don’t know what to do.”

The war won’t let go of Kirill Berezin, 27. The carpenter from St. Petersburg wanted to refuse gun service, and then he was nevertheless sent to a military camp near the Ukrainian border. There, Kirill feared for his life and fled. Now he’s supposed to go back there.
